Web 2.0 Blurred Voices.....

"What is Web 2.0?" David Hornik asks everyone at the Battelle/O'Reilly conference, that officially ended on Friday.

"What is Web 2.0?" asks a Ziff Davis reporter of people who walk by in the main lobby. I'm thinking........what do people 'want it to be?' Everyone has a vested interest therefore defines it with that in mind. Or what they 'hope' they will get in the next generation of products.

I loved Joe Krause' comment to a handful of people in a hallway. "VCs have lost sight of whether its a product or a Company." He's right.

At one point, amidst the buzz, when the roar was at its height (day two, second schmooze break), all I could hear were fractions of sentences, no phrase or thought completed itself. The conversation blurred together. No completion....a bit like the question that someone threw out to a panel from the audience on the last day................why does everyone keep avoiding the business model question? Back to Joe's comment.

My blurred surreal experience?? It went something like this.......

"my first start-up was....."
"a combined social networking tool and....."
"their sweet spot is......"
"collaboration in a new way......"
"enable, enable, enable......"
"we're an open source blah blah blah......"
"we'll just give it away to the consumer and then hope to......."
"it allows you to tag and filter and......"
"at a macro level, it does......"
"with the skype and flickr deals as......"
"vcs are looking for ways to......."
"the money is starting to flow again and yet....."
"we're a mobile platform that does...."
"we combine messaging with......."
"its a blogging tool that builds community and....."
"yeah we're about building community too....."
"its a free download toolbar that promotes multi blah blah communication...."
"we combine what technorati and monster does in a way that......"
"we scrape beyond just....."

Find me a corner please.
